Vent Crawler
A downloadable game for Windows
A first person, audio-centric, conversation puzzle game.
Introduction
A prototype of the core gameplay for an audio-based game about crawling in vents above and next to the rooms inside a building and using microphone input to interact with the people within.
A planned use case
for this gameplay system is to make a "prison escape" or "prison
mule" game where the player sneaks above prison cells to cooperate with
convicts to distract prison guards to complete missions.
Controls
There are only 3 actions the player can perform in the prototype:
- Moving and rotating
- Speaking to other characters
- Listen to hints
Use W/A/S/D or the arrow keys to move.
Use Q and E to rotate incrementally left and right respectively.
Press F to get a hint about what to do next based on the last piece of important information you listened to.
To interact with
nearby characters, simply stand close to them and speak into the microphone. It
is not needed to perform any action such as pressing a key to make the
microphone listen.
Instructions
This game requires Windows 10 to run, older versions of Windows don't have the required speech recogntion system that the game engine uses. Some older builds of Windows 10 might not work either.
Download prototype 4, unzip it, and run StartGame.exe.
For those of you who came to this page from one of the old prototype posts, the older versions are still also available to download and play.
